Otavi district elects Swapo candidates for November elections

Swapo members for the Otavi district on Saturday held an extraordinary conference where they elected candidates to represent the party in the regional council and local authority elections on 25 November.
Swapo's Otjozondjupa regional administrator, Candy Shivute, on Sunday said George Garab, who is the mayor of Otavi, was elected to contest the regional councillor position.
“He competed against four other party members for the position,” Shivute said. Garab obtained 26 votes, while Otavi district party coordinator Elizabeth Shinana got 16. The incumbent constituency councillor, Laina Nekundi, obtained eight votes, while Batholomeus Shangheta received two votes and Kaino Davids eight.
Seven party members were elected to contest the local authority elections.
The candidates are Simon Hashondili, Naftali Dausab, Erisia Negumbo, Isaac Hoaseb, Selma Nantinda, Sam Naholo and Lukas Stefanus.
Sixty delegates attended the conference.
