Ongwediva Spur sponsors northern football competition
The first Silver Wolf Spur football tournament will start at Ongwediva next weekend.
Twenty-four teams are competing for the top prize of N$10 000.
They include 12 teams from the Oshana Regional Football Second Division League; the top three teams from each of the second-division leagues in the Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto regions; as well as Golden Bigs Football Club (FC), Ongwediva City FC and KK Palace FC - three local teams affiliated to the North-West First Division League.
The competition will be played over two weekends: 1 and 2 October, and 8 and 9 October.
Silver Wolf Spur Ongwediva’s marketing manager Deon Britz said at the draw of the tournament on Friday evening that his company is sponsoring the event to provide the people of northern Namibia with some football amusement.
The total sponsorship is N$90 000, of which N$20 000 is allocated for prizes and the rest for logistics.
The winning team will take home a floating trophy and 25 gold medals while the runners-up will take home N$5 000 and 25 silver medals.
Prizes of N$3 000 and N$2 000 will be given to the teams in the third and fourth positions.
