In less than two months, Ongwediva town council has awarded another bid for sewer reticulation at Sky Phase 1 to Omatando Construction CC.
The project is valued at N$ 5.7 million and will cover 306 erven, including a pump station that will serve Sky Phase 2 in the near future with a capacity of 276 erven. The project will run from July 2021 to April 2022.
In May, the municipality also provided sewer reticulation to the residents of Extension 15, covering 310 erven. This project is expected to be completed in November. The town’s mayor Talah Shalyefu said the projects a result of consultations between the residents of Extension 15 and the council over the past years.
He said that project, valued at N$8.2 million, was awarded to Larissa Investment CC.
Improving sanitation
Municipality spokesperson Jackson Muma said the public consultations prioritised the provision of sewer reticulation to Sky Phase 1 as part of the council’s target to improve sanitation at the town.
He urged residents of Sky Phase 1 to provide support to the contractor for the duration of the project.
“Sewer provision is one of council’s priorities in addition to land delivery, water and electricity to the residents, thereby focusing on the town’s vision to be a leading urban centre in Namibia that is built on quality municipal services and promoting sustainable local economic development,” he said.
