The Ongwediva town council has decided to construct stormwater channels for residents of Reception Two and Extension 10 to prevent flooding during the rainy season and to make sure roads remain accessible.
Municipality spokesperson Jackson Muma said several houses in the town were flooded in December 2019, which prompted the council to come up with a lasting solution for its residents.
In the past after heavy rains, the water remained standing instead of flowing through to the nearby oshana due to the absence of proper channels.
Muma said this will become a thing of the past as the council has started constructing a gravel road and stormwater channels to prevent further flooding.
He said Omatando Construction was contracted to build the stormwater channels at a cost N$2.4 million.
The gravel road will be built by Pandu Construction, which has been contracted to fix all streets in Ongwediva. Work on both projects is expected to be completed by November 2021.
“Our residents are our priority. We would like to urge the community to provide support and cooperation to the contractor so that work is completed well on time as scheduled and before the rainy season,” Muma said. – [email protected]
