The Ondonga Traditional Authority (OTA) has recovered 32 cattle stolen in the Ondonga grazing area.
No arrest has been made so far.
Junior headman Lot Kasamene said eight of the 32 stolen cattle were calves.
He said the cattle were spotted west of Ondangwa and community members tipped off the Ondonga crime prevention committee.
Five suspects aged between 26 and 36 were arrested in connection with the theft.
“Only a few of the recovered cattle have been identified, as some of the cattle had their ear tags removed or their stock brands were tampered with,” he said.
Kasamane said stock theft was on the rise in the area and vowed that the traditional authority would do its best to fight it.
He said the identified cattle were handed over to their owners.
People who have lost cattle to stock theft are urged to visit the Ondonga palace at Onambango to identify their livestock. Proof of ownership is required.
Michael Niikondo from Oshipumbu shomugongo is one of the few who got their stolen cattle back.
He thanked the OTA for recovering them, but said he wanted to see the thieves behind bars.
He said his cattle went missing at the beginning of the year after they had been attacked by lions at Ombuga and became separated from the herd.
