Omusati SORA questioned
Erginus Endjala's speech delivered last Friday has been publicly questioned.
People in Omusati Region have identified serious discrepancies in the State of the Region Address made at the weekend by governor Erginus Endjala. The governor in his speech themed 'Where Productivity Meets Prosperity' pointed out many successes and challenges facing his region.
He said during the 2016/17 financial year, government spent a substantial amount of over N$700 million through the construction of infrastructure towards the region's development.
Speaking to Namibian Sun on the sidelines of the State of the Region Address, Okahao Primary School principal Immanuel Amutenya wanted to know why governor made no mention of the N$17 million school, which was expected to be handed over two years ago.
According to Amutenya, the school is operating from a dilapidated church building while painfully waiting for the new school premises to be completed.
Last year the ministry of education said the contractor was removed from the project due to poor workmanship. Government had also indicated that a new contractor was being appointed to complete the project, which includes tilling some classrooms and levelling floors.
The progress of the construction of a shelter for expectant mothers, who are currently camping outside the Outapi State Hospital, was also highlighted by irate public members.
The public members wanted to know what the governor has done to ensure that the issue is addressed. Another Omusati official who spoke on condition of anonymity told Namibian Sun detailed information was lacking from this year's address.
The source was making reference to the construction of the Omusati regional headquarters, which was supposed to be completed by March 2015. The project has not yet been finalised to this day. “The governor just mentioned it under projects that were implemented in the previous year, which however is not true.
That project was in fact supposed to be concluded before last year,” the source said. Regarding government tenders being awarded and yet they are not completed on time, Endjala said that this should come to an end.
