Omuriro scoops innovation award

Ogone Tlhage - Entrepreneur Peter Till’s fire-inspired idea saw him walk away with N$25 000 following the crowing of the Sanlam Innovation Works competition winner at the Namibia Business Innovation Institute (NBII) last week.Till owns and manages local start-up, Omuriro firelighters.He promised to share his winnings with the four other nominees who were not lucky enough to scoop the big prize. This sees Till walk away N$21 000 richer.Congratulating each of the finalists, Sanlam Namibia general manager for public and corporate support, Evans Simataa, said that it was a pleasure to be involved in the innovation challenge.“It is indeed a great pleasure to bear witness with you all awarding the third winner of the Sanlam Innovation Works. Innovation is about creating things that will make a difference in people’s lives,” Simataa said.According to Till, the firelighters have an unlimited shelf life, contain no toxins and are all made locally. “Omuriro natural firelighters are untreated wax dipped hardwood shavings made from the Namibian Acacia Black Thorn, bush wood. Omuriro lights fires fast and easy,” Till said.
