The Windhoek High Court yesterday convicted a 24-year-old man on five charges of rape, attempted murder and common assault.
Rudolf Goagoseb, who was 18 years old when the crimes were committed, was acquitted on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Acting Judge Boas Usiku found Goagoseb guilty of all the rape charges relating to a crime committed at Okahandja on 29 September 2010.
Goagoseb assaulted one of the victims by choking her and twisting her neck with the intent to kill her.
He was found guilty on an attempted murder charge and a count of common assault for hitting another victim in the chest with a clenched fist.
Judge Usiku said the victims gave clear a description of their assailant, including the clothing Goagoseb was wearing.
“In light of the evidence this court is satisfied that [Goagoseb] is the person who encountered the complainants on the fateful day and subjected them to the acts,” Judge Usiku concluded.
Goagoseb was remanded in custody.
Usiku postponed the matter to 26 October, when pre-sentencing arguments will be heard.
