The Namibia Premier League (NPL) has maintained that it still pays salaries and its offices operate despite the lengthy absence of league football.

“There are still two people at the offices who work on a daily basis and they are still getting their salaries. We still also have funds available in our accounts to pay the salaries of everyone,” NPL CEO Harald Fulle said.

The NPL, which is currently under suspension from the Namibia Football Association (NFA), has lost several court cases in its bid for the suspension to be lifted. Namibian Sun also understands that league officials are yet to meet the newly elected NFA president Ranga Hailkali and the executive to pave the way forward. Fulle on the other hand stated that they are still waiting for an official meeting invitation from the NFA president.

“It is not our duty to invite the president and that is why we will wait from him and his executive to set up the meeting,” Fulle added.

About CAS

Just this week, the Court for Arbitration for Sports (CAS) asked Patrick Kauta and Mpasi Haingura to nominate their preferred arbitrator in their appeal against a decision to exclude them from the NFA's presidential elections last month. The two approached CAS before the congress to seek urgent relief after their exclusion, however, they were informed that it was not an urgent matter. CAS however agreed to arbitrate the case and assigned its lawyer Delphine Deschenaux-Rochat.

On coronavirus

“As things stand, we are also waiting for further communication from CAS about the next steps. I believe that the coronavirus scares have slowed a few things down given the restricted movements of people and gatherings.”
