No to mandatory jab, PDM shadow health minister says
Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) shadow minister for health Thimotheus Shihumbu says Cabinet, the Office of the Attorney General and the ministry of justice should not consider mandatory Covid-19 vaccinations, saying it contravenes the National Health Act. This follows an announcement that members of the Namibia Defence Force would be required to undergo vaccination earlier this month.
"The National Health Act, 2 of 2015, does not give the health minister power to provide health services by force to citizens who do not want it. Therefore the government must stop forthwith with the ideas of introducing mandatory vaccinations. We can assure you that the attorney general and minister of justice will open a can of worms and Pandora’s box which will have serious legal ramifications that shall shake the very found,” he said in a statement.
