No serviced plots available at Outapi
The Outapi Town Council has provided the town’s Onhimbu informal settlement with basic services such as water, electricity, sewage and gravel roads at a cost of N$20 million.
Outapi Mayor Matheus Ndeshitila said this at a reception for local businesspeople hosted by the council last week.
He said the provision of services to Onhimbu was one of the capital projects his council had successfully implemented in the past three financial years.
According to Ndeshitila, the provision of services was carried out under the government-funded Targeted Intervention Programme for Employment and Economic Growth (Tipeeg).
“The Tobias Hainyeko [settlement] was also provided with clean water by the council, while prepaid water meters, sewage vacuum systems, 30 public toilets and 30 showers were provided by Cuve-Water Project from Germany,†the mayor said. The council also provided electricity and streetlights to the value of N$3.6 million to the Olufuko Centre as well as to the Tobias Hainyeko and Okayekongwe settlements.
The mayor said there were no serviced plots available at the town at this stage.
“We have a high demand for residential and business erven. To this end, the council in the 2010/11 financial year engaged in a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement with three property developers to provide all basic services and to construct houses for our residents,†said Ndeshitila.
The three developers are OB Davids, Shev Properties and Camelthorn. At the function, Ndeshitila awarded certificates of recognition to 30 local businesses for their contribution to the development of Outapi.
