Walvis Bay
An alleged serial rapist who terrorised women in Kuisebmond late last year will remain in police custody after his bail application failed in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Michael Michael (28), who was arrested in December 2020, is accused of raping at least three women. His arrest came after one of the women positively identified him during an ID parade.
Michael was charged with four counts of housebreaking with the intent to steal and theft, one count of housebreaking with the intent to rape, rape as well as one count involving the pointing of a firearm.
He was previously convicted on a charge of housebreaking with the intent to steal and was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2016.
During the bail application, magistrate John Sindano said it would not be in the interest of the public to release the accused on bail.
Michael indicated that he has two children, a sick mother and siblings to take care of.
He represented himself and did not call any witnesses on his behalf. He also did not challenge the ID parade identification done by one of his victims.
Erongo 24/7 previously reported that the suspect broke into victims’ shacks while they were sleeping and raped them at gun point. All three victims lived alone.
In two separate incidents, the suspect allegedly asked the victim’s what her HIV status is. On another occasion, he put on a condom before he raped his victim. He also allegedly raped a fourth victim, who chose not to make a case.
