NMH sport reporter shines at NASA
Driven by passion

This year was a big year for sport and the acclaim did not stop with the Olympians as NMH’s very own Limba Mupetami was named digital and broadcast journalist of the year at the 2021 Namibian Annual Sports Awards (NASA).
Mupetami says she did not fall into sport reporting, but has harboured a love for sport throughout her life.
“I didn’t get into sports reporting by chance. I was always active in sports, and played football in primary, high school and at university,” says Mupetami.
Before being able to incorporate her passion for sport into her work as a journalist, Mupetami worked in the entertainment, community and youth news spheres.
Mupetami is passionate about her work in sports journalism. “I love my job. I get to do something which means a lot to me. I think I enjoy seeing the wins, after along path of hard work, athletes win, that’s what I love to see,” she says.
She believes that sports reporting has a responsibility toward the sports fraternity. “We can help sport in Namibia by reporting accurately, and holding those in sports leadership accountable and basically just acting as voices for the athletes who are not being heard or seen and by creating a platform for Namibians to know their sportsmen and women,” says Mupetami.
The Namibian Sun reporter says that thinking outside the box is outdated and has her own unique way of staying innovative.
“Instead of thinking out of the box, I sometimes use the box to make something out of it. Also, I think I use my time wisely and I network.”
Mupetami says her career has given her many memorable moments but she attributes a special value to Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi’s stellar performance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. “Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi competing at the Olympic Games for one. It united Namibia in a sense that everyone wanted them to win,” says Mupetami.
Mupetami dreams of a world in which women take up space in her field of work. “I want to see more women in sports. Not because of women empowerment but because they are capable. I want to see them owning the space,” she says.
