Nine dead in two accidents

Nine people have died in two separate accidents on the Okahandja/Otjiwarongo road.
The deceased included a baby boy and three other children.
This was confirmed by the spokesperson of the police, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, who said the first accident occurred on Thursday about 35 km from Okahandja.
It is alleged that the driver of a Toyota bakkie was overtaking a truck and collided head-on with an oncoming combi.
The driver of the combi, 32-year-old Junias Nande, was alone in the vehicle and died instantly.
The other deceased have been identified as Helena Shivute (9), Vehinda (5), Gerhard Simon (67), Fiina Ndeleni Nangombe (22) and Albertina Simson (26).
The second accident occurred on Friday at around 01:50 about 40 km from Okahandja when a truck and a Toyota bakkie collided head-on
The occupants in the bakkie were a family, of whom the father and son died at the scene, while a three-month-old baby died upon arrival at the Okahandja hospital. Their mother survived the accident.
The deceased have been identified as Ameni Amunyela (three months), Vilho Amunyela (40) and Natangwe Amunyela (10). The mother who survived is Elise Mwanyekenge.
The driver of the truck and his co-driver were slightly injured.
