Nine arrested for wildlife crimes
Poaching continues unabated in the northern regions of Namibia.

Nine suspects were arrested recently in connection with wildlife crimes linked to five separate cases, while eight illegal wildlife products were seized.
Three new cases were registered last week.
This is according to a report compiled by the intelligence and investigation unit within the environment ministry and the protected resources unit within the safety and security ministry.
On 9 September, two Namibians were arrested in the Menias Brian Libuto police station cells in Kongola in the Zambezi Region for being in possession of a lechwe carcass.
Kaela Mushambe and Njanji Samwaka were charged for contravening the Nature Conservation Ordinance. In another case at Ngoma in Zambezi, two Namibians were arrested on 16 September for being in possession of an impala carcass, an Egyptian goose and a guinea fowl. A hunting rifle and 10 rounds of ammunition were seized.
Angels Masilani and Lifasi Muchelo were charged for contravening the Nature Conservation Ordinance and the Arms and Ammunitions Act.
Granted bail, rearrested
Meanwhile, at Omungwelume in Ohangwena, a Namibian, Pombili Migela, was arrested on 16 September for being in possession of a rhino horn.
The case was already reported on 6 September and he was charged with contravening the Controlled Wildlife Products and Trade Act.
At Okahao, two Namibians were arrested on 18 September in connection with an old case in which a live pangolin was seized. The case dates back to 20 February 2019 and they were charged with contravening the Controlled Wildlife Products and Trade Act. Erastus Shiimi Simeon and Iipumbu Tsingwalulu Kiinge were out on bail, but they failed to appear in court. Warrants of arrest were issued and they were rearrested.
At Tsumeb, four Namibians were arrested on 19 September for being in possession of a duiker carcass.
Two hunting rifles, four rounds of ammunition and a vehicle were confiscated.
Sydney Robert Mupetami, Festus Ochurub, Bonnie Neidel and Mathias Uixab were all charged with contravening the Nature Conservation Ordinance and the Arms and Ammunition Act.
