New Amarok revealed

Volkswagen has revealed more versions of its facelifted, V6-powered Amarok ahead of its debut at the Hannover Commercial Vehicle Show in late September. While giving us our first peek at the new Canyon special edition (the orange bakkie below), Volkswagen has also divulged more information about the middle-output version of the new V6 TDI that powers the edition.The Canyon can be told apart by its two-tone ‘Aragua’ 17-inch alloys as well as black wheel arch mouldings and matt black sports bar, sill tubes and B-Pillar. The edition is based on the Comfortline grade, which is also being shown for the first time (in facelifted guise) at Hannover.The Canyon and Comfortline are powered by a 3-litre V6 TDI turbodiesel rated at 150kW and 500Nm, mated to either an eight-speed autobox and permanent four-wheel drive or a six-speed manual with part-time 4WD.This is not the most potent version of the new V6 TDI however, with VW previously having announced a 165kW and 550Nm iteration, good for a claimed 9.3-second 0-100km/h sprint and 193km/h top speed. This range-topping motor will be available in the Aventura and Highline grades, which you’ll also see in the gallery above, and with same transmission choices.Volkswagen will also introduce a 120kW version of the V6 TDI, although this version has yet to be detailed. The 2-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel variants from the pre-facelifted range are expected to continue in the new range, slotting just below the V6s.The upgraded Amarok, which gains a minor exterior facelift and a much smarter cabin, is scheduled to reach South Africa during the second half of 2017 and the engine line-up has yet to be confirmed. That said, we can’t imagine them depriving power hungry South Africans of the V6.IOL MOTORING
