New acting CRO for Kunene
ESTER KAMATI
OTJIWARONGO
The Kunene regional council recently announced the appointment of Joseph Esau Jantze as its new acting chief regional officer (CRO).
Jantze has been serving as the regional council's director of general services for the past eight years.
The position of CRO has been vacant since 2019, when George Kamseb's contract was terminated, and the duties have been performed by a series of acting appointments.
Kamseb was fired when he refused to return to work after a suspension of nearly two years, which was ruled illegal by the Public Service Commission in 2016. The Kunene regional council has informed Namibia Media Holdings that the position will only be filled in an acting capacity until legal matters with Kamseb have been finalised. “By procedure and law, a new CRO would have to be appointed with permanent contracts as at all other regional council structures,” the council said.
