Netball Namibia lauds Newspaper Cup inclusion
Netball Namibia (NN) has expressed its delight with the organisers of the 18th edition of the Namibian Newspaper Cup for including the code in the competition.
This year's youth football competition, which will include netball for the first time, is slated for Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region from 20 March to 2 April 2018.
Speaking to Nampa on Tuesday, NN public relations officer Rebekka Goagoses said after being informed about their inclusion in this year's competition by the tournament organisers, they advised all the regions to enter a team for the netball section.
“Each regional delegation will consist of 12 players, a team manager, a coach, an assistant coach, secretary-general and the regional chairperson who will act as the head of the delegation, so each team will consist of 17 people per delegation,” she said.
She added that in terms of eligibility for the netball tournament, players should have been born on or before 31 December 1999.
“Eligible players will be required to provide certified copies of full birth certificates, a national identity document or passport, plus two colour photos,” she added.
Goagoses said the tournament will be structured into four group stages, followed by knockout rounds in the quarter and semi-finals to be followed by playoffs for third and fourth place, as well as for the winner and runner-up.
Despite being included in the tournament for the first time, NN will use this opportunity to host their meetings, as well as workshops, on the sidelines of the Namibian Newspaper Cup.
The meetings that will be held include a general meeting, umpires workshop, coaching clinic for all regional coaches, and a team managers' meeting.
Goagoses took the opportunity to express the delight of the NN board, and the entire netball fraternity - plus the girlchild - to the organisers for including them in one of Namibia's biggest youth competitions.
“There are no words that can express our happiness with the Namibian Newspaper Cup, supported by Nedbank Namibia, for including us in this competition,” she said.
“We are calling on all people living in the Zambezi region to come out in their numbers and witness top netball action during the period of the cup,” Goagoses concluded.
