Neckartal added to country’s dam levels
The total capacity of Namibian dams has increased to 1 548 499 million cubic metres.

The average level of the country’s dams currently stands at 23.3%, with the Neckartal Dam having being added to NamWater’s official weekly dam bulletin.
This has increased the total capacity of the dams in Namibia from 691 499 million cubic metres to 1548 499 million cubic metres.
Last season, the average level of the dams was 5.4%.
In the central areas, the average stands at 58.5%, while last season they were only 14.7% full.
The Swakoppoort Dam is currently 72% full, while last season the level was 5.2%. Meanwhile, the Von Bach Dam is 75.6% full, compared to last season’s 34.1%.
Omatako shows improvement
The Omatako Dam, which was empty last season, is now 21.6% full, while the Friedenau Dam’s level stands at 38.7% and the Goreangab Dam at 79.5%.
Last season, the levels of these dams were 21.4% and 89.5% respectively.
In the south, the average dam levels are 19.7%, compared to last season’s 5.8%.
The Hardap Dam stands at 27.4%, Neckartal at 9.9%, Naute at 70.3%, Oanob at 79.5% and Driehuik at 6.7%, while Bondels is empty.
Last season, the levels of these dams were 9%, no measurement for Neckartal, 73.1% and 40.3%, while the Driehuik and Bondels dams were empty.
Other dams
The average of the dams in the Gobabis area stands at 40.9%, compared to last season's 1.4%.
The Otjivero main dam is currently 43.9% full, while last season the level was only 1.6%.
Meanwhile, the Tilda Viljoen Dam is 24.1% full and the Daan Viljoen Dam stands at 19.3%. Last season these dams stood at 0.2% and 0% respectively.
In the north, the Olushandja Dam is 15% full in comparison to last season when its level was 19.8%.
The Omaruru Delta Dam in the Erongo Region and the Omatjenne Dam in the Otjozondjupa Region are both empty, the same as last season.
Decent rain forecasted
According to the latest seasonal rainfall forecast issued by the Namibia Meteorological Service, large parts of Namibia are likely to receive normal to above normal rainfall during December to February.
According to the ‘Reën in Namibia’ Facebook page, Divundu received about 110 mm of rain on Sunday, while 73mm was reported at the Nunda River Lodge.
According to Carl David Marx, Divundu also received rain on Thursday and on Saturday and by then the total for the rainfall season stood at 182mm.
Meanwhile, Tsumeb also received about 9mm on Sunday, while it was also reported that soft rain fell the entire night in Ongwediva.
On Saturday, 21mm was recorded in Grootfontein.
