NCCI Walvis Bay gets new leadership

The Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Walvis Bay chapter will soon publish its financial reports to enhance transparency.
This was the first announcement by newly elected chairperson Johhny Doeseb following his election at the organisation’s annual meeting last week.
By doing so, NCCI Walvis Bay would become the first chamber of commerce in the country to make public its financials.
Outgoing NCCI Walvis Bay chairperson Tony Raw introduced Vilho Nevonga as the organisation’s new deputy chairperson, thanking outgoing vice-president John Savva for helping to lay a solid foundation for the new leadership to build on.
“Their contributions are clear, and the 90 members (local businesses) decided to retain them as captains of industry, and co-opted them as members of the advisory committee,” Doeseb said of the former president and vice-president.
“We will try to emulate what they have put in place. NCCI Walvis Bay is the only branch with sound financial management systems in place. The organisation has assets totalling N$3 million and cash investments amounting to N$2 million,” Doeseb said.
The new chairman said the organisation’s strategy would focus on growing Walvis Bay’s SME base through training and development.
“We will also look into the issues of youth empowerment and land provision since we have a shared responsibility towards the realisation and success of the Harambee Prosperity Plan,” he said.
“A roadmap with strategic objectives will be provided soon.”
Doeseb further lashed out at what he said was perpetual negative and one-sided reporting of the NCCI by a local newspaper, saying this had resulted in damage to the organisation’s stature there.
“We have lost members and there was no proof provided to substantiate unfounded allegations levelled against the NCCI Walvis Bay. There is no need to fix something which is not broken. We are here to promote the interest of all businesses and will do our level best to achieve this.”
Savva expressed confidence in the new president and said he looked forward to seeing the organisation reach greater heights.
