NamPol team claims second-division honours in Ohangwena

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) are the winners of the 2012/13 football league of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) in the Ohangwena Region. NamPol Football Club (FC) received N$25 000, a trophy and 30 gold medals for their efforts. The awards ceremony took place at the northern border town of Helao Nafidi in the Ohangwena Region on Saturday evening. The vice-chairperson of the Ohangwena NFA executive committee, Sammy Mushelenga, told Nampa that NamPol won the league with 43 points, followed by Oshikango Chiefs FC with 42 points. Oshikango Chiefs FC took home N$15 000 and 30 silver medals, while Major Power FC, as the third-best football club, received a prize of N$8 000 and 30 bronze medals. The Ohangwena NFA executive awarded only the league’s top six football clubs. Mwadinomho United FC, Feather Fighters and Young Tops received N$3 500, N$2 500 and N$ 1 500 respectively. Cleaner Pickard, 18, of Mwadinomho United FC was crowned the best player of the season for displaying significant football skills during this year’s The Namibian Newspaper Cup. Pickard also won himself a place in the Under-20 national team which travelled for several friendlies to Germany shortly after The Namibian Newspaper Cup. Two other players received awards - Laban Hamutenya (most influential player) and Martin Valombola (best young player) - while Gabriel Haikali was declared the best referee of the season. NamPol FC and Oshikango Chiefs FC, as the league winners and runners-up, have been promoted to the 2013/14 North-Eastern Stream First Division.
