Namibians join foreign legion
Several Namibian players are expected to gain more experience and exposure, as they move to new clubs outside the country.
Moving to clubs outside Namibia is the dream of many local footballers.
Black Africa midfielder Wesley Katjiteo, Tura Magic defender Charles Hambira and his teammate Junias Theophilus have joined other Namibian footballers plying their trade outside the country.
Local players such as Teberius Lombard, Willy Stephanus and Joslin Kamatuka (Zambia), Peter Shalulile, Riaan !Hanamub, Deon Hotto, Chris Katjiukua, Loydt Kazapua and Ananias Gebhardt (South Africa), Benson Shilongo (Egypt) and Sadney Urikhob (Tanzania) are already part of the foreign legion.
Katjiteo won the players' player of the season prize for the 2018/19 Namibia Premier League (NPL) season. This accolade has now propelled him to enter the foreign fray.
He and Hambira will play for South African national first division team, Mpumalanga-based TS Sporting, as the club looks to bolster their ranks for the new season.
They will play alongside former Kaizer Chiefs defender Sibusiso Khumalo, former Polokwane City defender Vukile Mngqibisa and Thobela Sikhakhane (on loan), amongst others.
The duo are likely to cross paths with other Namibian players like !Hanamub, who is signed with Jomo Cosmos.
Theophilus, on the other hand, will join Itamunua Keimune in Ethiopia at Welwalo Adigrat University FC, which plays in the Ethiopian Premier League. Keimune is making a move from Dire Dawa City in the same country.
Other Namibian players such as Petrus Shitembi and Denzil Haoseb are currently involved in trials in Germany and Morocco, respectively.
If they are successful at the trials, the exposure and skills gained could be of great benefit to the Brave Warriors in the future.
