Namibian trade show in Malaysia

The Namibian High Commission in Malaysia is organising a trade, investment and tourism road show aimed at bringing together Namibian businesspersons with their Southeast Asian counterparts.The show is scheduled for 24 September to 5 October in Malaysia, and aimed at bringing together businesses from both countries to network and discuss areas of possible cooperation and investment. Namibian High Commissioner to Malaysia Anne Namakau Mutelo told Nampa during last month’s foreign policy review conference that the road show could link Namibia and the rest of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), with its population of about 300 million people, with the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), which offers a market of 600 million people.The Namibian High Commission in Malaysia also represents the country in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Timor Lestor, Brunei, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.“This is a huge market to promote and sell Namibian quality products such as grapes, fish, beef and dates during our journey in implementing and reducing poverty through the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP).”Mutelo said the export of Namibian products to Asia does not have to be in bulk but should curve out a niche and boutique market that the country can supply.Mutelo challenged Namibian entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises and social sector stakeholders to make use of the huge market that ASEAN has to offer.“I will continue to use the opportunity as head of mission in this region to promote investments and strengthen cooperation in the fields of education, agriculture, tourism, health, trade, and infrastructure development.“There is a lot we can learn from this region and it can assist us in realising the aspirations of the HPP and reduce poverty in Namibia,” she said.
