Namibian Sun, Cymot donate to Kunene school

Namibian Sun and Cymot have come to the rescue to Omuhonga Primary School after a recent article on the plight of pupils who spend the chilly winter nights out in the open. Namibian Sun, which is a division of Namibia Media Holdings, joined Cymot and agreed to donate 100 blankets, 25 tents that can accommodate up to four children and a marquee tent to be used as a classroom. The items have a total value of N$98 000. “I am very excited to hear about that news. My dream of forming a group that will be called ‘Friends of Education’ has materialised even before I invited those that will be identified to form part of this group of friends,” says Education Minister Katrina Hanse-Himarwa when she was informed of the donation. Kunene Regional Governor Angelika Muharukua said: “This is good news to my region. There are so many schools in this region that need assistance, and we commend the private sector and individuals who are coming to the rescue of education development in our country. Kunene is one of the remote regions and often tends to be forgotten by many. I plead for more assistance like this one from Namibian Sun towards education in our country. The government alone will not succeed in getting to the root of the needs.” “I am over the moon, I am very happy, I am the happiest principal today, and Namibians do really listen to the cries of our little ones. It is still too early for me to believe that this is real,” said the school principal, Muniehi Kakuva. The donation was handed over to the regional governor in the presence of the pupils and teachers of Omuhonga Primary School and their teachers. The school is situated 140 km north of Opuwo.
