Namibia still has a chance
Everything is on the line for the u-17 team tomorrow.
Namibia's under-17 national team can still make it to the next round of the Cosafa Cup if they can to beat Botswana tomorrow.
This is after the Cosafa 2016 champions on Saturday lost 1-0 to host Mauritius in their second game of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) under-17 tournament in Mauritius.
Botswana defeated Seychelles 2-1 which was labelled as an improved showing from the islanders after their opening day 8-3 loss to Namibia, but still not enough to keep them in the tournament as their semi-final hopes were dashed.
This means that Namibia will have it all to play for against their neighbours on Tuesday.
The victory leaves Namibia and Mauritius on three points each, and each team will be hopeful of winning their final matches in the pool to either top the group or finish as one of the best runners-up.
Only the top team in each pool and the best placed runner-up advance to the semi-finals, where they will have the chance to lift the trophy and qualify for the 2019 African under-17 Championships in Tanzania next year.
Missed chances
In a match where opportunities multiplied, both sides wasted many chances to kill the game as early as possible.
The Baby Warriors squandered a few chances in order to secure their qualification to the next round.
The two goalkeepers were however at the top of their game after making quality saves to avoid a goal scoring match fest.
Mauritius' Jeremy Kawoa finally broke the deadlock to give his nation the lead and a goal which ended up as the decisive goal of the tournament.
This allowed the home side to put more pressure on the Namibians, allowing the less space to counter.
The 2016 champions came in the game against Mauritius full of confidence after they massacred Seychelles 8-3 on Thursday.
Missing teams
Madagascar and the Comoros Islands are missing from this edition, which serves as qualifier for the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) u-17 tournament in Tanzania next year.
This year's winner will qualify directly for the Afcon tourney.
The Afcon winner will qualify for the Fifa u-17 World Cup, which the Namibian team has never featured at.
