Through his career path, he has developed the ability to anticipate roadblocks and create effective alternative plans to ensure that he remains relevant. His job as an asset manager involves optimally managing Namcor’s oil and gas portfolio so that returns from the assets are maximised. The job works closely with joint-venture partners to ensure that Namcor’s interests are upheld. Furthermore, he is also responsible for effective data management of Namcor’s key assets: petroleum technical data (offshore and onshore exploration data).The transformation from being a technical person to a manager has been challenging for Negonga.“Due to that fact that I found myself having to learn how to lead, manage people and work out of his comfort zone. My biggest accomplishment in my career has been learning to overcome the challenges,” he says.Each day is different and comes with different tasks. Negonga normally gets to the office before 08:00, reads the newspaper and has coffee/breakfast. Being part of a world-class organisation, as a department, they have strategic goals which are tied to the corporate strategy of the company for the next five years. Hence, wildly important Goals or tasks are set for the week and require feedback on completion. “These are activities which keep us going each day to ensure that we deliver on our strategic goals,” he adds.Having worked at Namcor for seven years, he got the opportunity to network and meet different people and companies. “Our business has an interpersonal relationship aspect which allows one to learn from those who have vast experience in the industry.” Negonga’s plans involve growing with Namcor so that they can build a strong brand, continue to learn and ensure that he remains relevant, and contribute as much value as possible to Namcor. His best phase in life was in 2012 when he started as a geoscientist at Namcor. “A lot was learned, during that period indeed. Namcor was a going through a recovery period and we had to plough on forward,” he says proudly
