Nambala, Murere shine in Berlin

Namibian athletes Johannes Nambala and Bradley Murere won silver and bronze medals, respectively, at an international Grand Prix event in Berlin, Germany over the weekend.Nambala won silver in the 100m T13 category in a time of 11.12 seconds, while Murere won a bronze in the 100m T46 category with a time of 11.98 seconds.Stirley Jones of the United States beat Nambala with a time of 10.81 seconds, while Murere lost to veteran athletes Yohans Nascimento of Brazil and Danas Sodaitis of Lithuania, who came first and second, respectively.Nambala said he was happy with his run but hopes to improve the colour of his medal in the 400m.“My favourite event - the 400m - is still coming up and I hope I will manage to win a gold medal when I compete in that event,” he said. He was due to run yesterday.The 2018 World IPC Berlin Grand Prix is being held at the Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Sportpark, with 41 countries competing. In 2016, Namibia won 14 medals at the same championships - nine gold, three silver and two bronze.Namibia's Commonwealth gold medallist Ananias Shikongo narrowly missed out on a bronze medal after finishing fourth in the men's T11 100m final over the weekend.Shikongo missed out by a mere 0.02 seconds, finishing in a time of 11.37 seconds, with Filipe Gomes of Brazil winning the bronze medal in a time of 11.35 seconds.David Brown of the US won the gold in a time of 11.08 seconds, while Lucas Prado of Brazil took the silver with a time of 11.13 seconds. Immanuel 'The Bullet' Bernardo finished last in his T11 100m event, with a time of 12.55 seconds.Christoph Marungu finished sixth in the T12 100m race with a time of 12.83 seconds.
