The garden town of Okahandja is expected to be a hive of business activities after the construction of a much-anticipated N$120 million shopping centre is completed next year.
The project is the largest private investment to date in the town and is set against the backdrop of attracting further economic opportunities.
Garth Mouton of the developer, Namib Housing, said the development will create excellent economically viable opportunities for the town to grow and prosper further.
“We can appreciate that approximately 300 jobs will be created indirectly as a result of this development,” said Mouton.
The shopping centre will “drastically alter the retail culture and lifestyle within the town, as a good mix of tenants has been secured”, he said.
These include Shoprite, Edgars Active, Legit, Jetmart, Pep, Dunns, Bears, Hungry Lion and Spur, which will turn the centre into an asset to the town's shopping landscape. Financial institutions such as First National Bank (FNB) and Nedbank will also occupy space at the centre.
Phase one construction comprises approximately 9600 square meters of retail space, while phase two includes a further 8700 square meters.
Mouton said the vision for development in Okahandja had taken shape for a while, and they were proud to be making a positive contribution to the long term growth of the town.
Construction officially commenced in February this year and the company said it had “harnessed the necessary skills, experience and expertise to comfortably see this development project to full completion”.
