MTS gains momentum

JESSE JACKSON KAURAISAWINDHOEK The Maize Triangle Soccer League (MTS) has retained its sponsorship from Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb Community Trust.This follows fruitful discussions between league organisers and the mine officials. The news of the sponsorships was made public at the league’s annual general meeting (AGM) on Saturday.Local manufacturers Dianapama Supplies and Manufacturing sponsored a tailor-made playing kit to all 12 member teams of the MTS.The kit is valued at N$77 280 and the handover ceremony was done on 23 January.Grateful“We are thankful to the leadership of Dianapama Manufacturing and Supplies for this sponsorship.“I can confidently confirm that Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb Community Trust will once again be sponsoring the league for the 2021/22 soccer season. We are also very grateful for that,” said Jefta Gaoab of the MTS.The MTS organisers have already submitted their budget to the league sponsors. “I can however not divulge the details of the budget now as the announcement will be take place before the league commences.“Apart from Dundee Precious Metals being the main sponsor, the opportunity of other external sponsors to come on board is likely.”Gaoab added that they are in discussion with other potential sponsors.DetachmentsThe league also accommodated first- and second-division teams last season given that there was no Namibia Premier League and division football.“With the Namibia Football Premier League (NFPL) to kick off, such teams will be detached from MTS and re-join their respective leagues in the first and second divisions.”MTS organisers said the league will continue to serve as the reserve league to these teams and others, with the age cap for the players set at 23.The idea is to align the activities of MTS league to those of the Namibia Football Premier League.“In case the envisaged Namibia Football Premier League with the first and second divisions do not kick off timeously as planned, MTS will seamlessly kick off with its soccer season.“The only thing that could hinder us from starting timeously would be the coronavirus,” Gaoab said.MTS leaders are also planning to travel to neighbouring South Africa where they will engage the leadership of MultiChoice Diski Challenge on the finer aspects of the league operations, administration and other related football matters.
