Telecommunications giant MTC's July multiple sponsorship deal for seven sport codes - amounting to about N$55 million over three years - will be paid out on an activity basis. This means sports codes need to send a proposal on an event they would like to stage before they can receive the funds. The sponsorship will run from 1 October 2020 to October 2023. “The dos and don'ts are contractual knowledge only privy to the sponsor and the sponsored. It is, however, an open engagement that MTC expects transparency on how funds are used, with financial reports,” corporate communications practitioner Fikameni Matias said.
Lucky beneficiaries
The 11 sport beneficiaries are as follows:
· MTC Namibia Football Association Cup – N$4.5 million a year (N$13.5 million over three years)
· MTC Dr Hage Geingob Cup – N$1.6 million a year (N$4.8 million over three years)
· MTC HopSol Youth Soccer League – N$500 000 a year (N$1.5 million over three years)
· MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy - N$2.75 million a year (N$8.25 million over three years)
· MTC Salute Boxing Academy - N$2.75 million a year (N$8.25 million over three years)
· MTC Namibia Youth Games - N$1.8 million a year (N$5.4 million over year years)
· MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club - N$500 000 a year (N$1.5 million over three years)
· MTC Netball Premier League - N$1.4 million a year (N$4.2 million over three years)

With preparations already underway, the event anticipates at least 30 senior boxers from those regions as well as several boxers from Opuwo in Kunene.
Another boxing event will take place on 7 November when the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy stages a closed-door boxing bonanza at the Windhoek Country Club.
