More than 20 years in the logistics industry
Worked his way up from a shunter to a train planner

Daniel Hamaseb was born and raised in the dusty streets of Katutura in Windhoek and completed high school at Braunfels Agricultural near Khorixas.
On 18 November 1996, he joined TransNamib as a junior shunter in Otjiwarongo and advanced to a trainer position. He is now a train planner. His tasks involve scheduling/planning train services for 24 hours before 09:00 every morning - considering all aspects such as safety and cost-effectiveness to meet the needs of clients.
A few challenges one can face in this job is dealing with different people from all walks of life, which requires big adaptation and good communication.
“I must say, by the grace of the Almighty my dreams came true,” Hamaseb said.
Among his humble achievements, his highlights include obtaining;
· A qualification in Management Development Programme (MDP) with distinction at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) in 2020.
· A certificate in project management (with distinction) from Potchefstroom Business School.
· A certificate in competency SAMTRAC--(NOSA).
· A certificate in SHE incident investigation (Level 3).
· A higher certificate in logistics management.
A typical day for him includes dealing with admin tasks first because he may be required to be on-site.
“There’s never a dull moment in my schedule,” Hamaseb added.
He said it was never his dream to become a train planner as his interest was in agriculture and business from a young age. “However, the opportunity arose to be part of the TransNamib team, which I’m very grateful for – and derive great joy from working in the transport/logistics operations.’
Hamaseb’s daily inspiration is his children as they motivate him daily to be the best, not only for himself but for them as well, and that keeps him going strong.
What Hamaseb wants to say to the youth is: “The world is your oyster. Make the most of your time productively and effectively. The best phase of my life is having learnt to experience life as it comes. With the good, bad and ugly. That right there is power.”
