Möller murder accused in court
Panduleni Gotlieb (30), the first of three suspects arrested in connection with the Hans-Jorge Möller murder and robbery case, appeared before the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
A handcuffed Gotlieb arrived under heavy police protection and appeared before Magistrate John Liwayo Sindano on three counts - murder, housebreaking with the intention to steal and attempted murder.
Magistrate Sindano granted a request that Gotlieb appear in cuffs because he is regarded a flight risk.
The case was postponed to 2 August for further investigation.
Prosecutor Tresia Hafeni opposed bail and informed the court that Gotlieb has three other pending cases.
“The investigation is not yet complete. Bail won’t be in the interest of society. The accused is a flight risk and might abscond. He has another attempted murder case in Omaruru as well as a possession of an illegal firearm and robbery cases against him.”
The police acted swiftly and released the identikits of two suspects on Friday. The investigating team accredited a joint operation and information sharing with other regions for the arrest of Gotlieb in a minibus taxi while travelling to the North between Ondangwa and Omuthiya on Friday night.
Two other suspects were arrested in Windhoek and were due to participate in an identification parade in Walvis Bay yesterday afternoon.
Möller (50) died at Cottage Hospital in Swakopmund on Saturday after an armed robbery at his home during the early hours of Friday morning. His wife Carol-Anne (48) was brutally assaulted by five intruders during the incident.
The deceased founded Sun Sail Catamarans and also owned and managed Air Hans Safaris with his wife.
In the meanwhile, anti-crime lobbyists have taken to social media and have created a page on Facebook, ‘No bail for murderers in Namibia’ in reaction to Möller’s murder. The page describes itself as having “no mercy, no tolerance for criminals in Namibia. This page is to create awareness of criminal actions done in Namibia, so we as a community can stop this” At the moment, the page has just over 800 likes and on the timeline, there is also a petition through a recognised petition website opposing bail for the Möller killers.
