Mission: One million views for GMP
Sticks and stones may break bones but Gazza says words will never hurt him
Award-winning artist Gazza says he has no time for naysayers but rather invites them to have a good time with his music and help him get Namibia's first million views from a music video.
For the first time, a local artist has made their goal public - reaching a million views on YouTube. But when you are the artist and your name is Gazza, it will not happen without a little bashing. Ever since the superstar announced his vision, social media loudmouths aired their comments and had many things to say about it being impossible. The Chelete singer says he is at a point in his career where he doesn't get bothered by critics. Being about 800 000 views from his goal within two weeks of uploading the video, here is what Gazza had to say about the saga and his upcoming album Misunderstood.
tjil (t): What is the deal with the million views?
Gazza (G): One million views are a feat. I know it is possible and I have a huge surprise for my fans when we eventually achieve this. This album is so lit, I am at a stage right now where I keep on trying to set the bar higher for myself, and just deliver good music for my many fans. Big and exciting things are to come.
t: Windhoek Draught is also marketing the one million views. As their brand ambassador, isn't it supposed to be the other way?
G: Windhoek Draught is just showing support, which they have consistently done and I am immensely grateful for all the support and encouragement. Windhoek Draught understands my brand and my work ethic, so the support isn't solely because I am a brand ambassador for Windhoek Draught, but because I am a Namibian artist who continues to challenge myself and break barriers.
t: There are many critics on social media who had a lot of negative comments about your song and the video and the possibility of it reaching a million views. What are your tricks on handling such people?
G: Critics have always been there and will always be there, and I am at a stage where I know that my work ethic, my talent and the commitment of my entire team is enough. While there are many critics, there are also many fans that have showered me with so much support. There is no trick when you work hard and when you are secure, you know what criticism to learn from and which to laugh off. The critics are welcome on 30 November to the album launch.
I am sure all the critics will have a lit time too.
