Miller, Steyn crowned national MTB champs
Alex Miller and Irene Steyn were on Sunday crowned champions of the national mountain bike (MTB) championships held at the IJG Trails in Windhoek.
In the elite men's category, Miller beat his closest competitor Tristan de Lange via a one-minute gap after six laps of racing.
The two young cyclists broke off from the rest of the peloton after the first lap.
Miller, who has been having a great year after finishing third at the African mountain bike championships, where he clinched a place for Namibia at next year's Olympic Games, lived up to expectations as he led the race from start to finish.
Xavier Papo, who had a lonely race throughout the afternoon, finished in third place.
In the elite women's category, Steyn was crowned the new champion after finishing the race more than 10 minutes ahead of her counterparts.
Michelle Vorster, the queen of Namibian MTB competitions and the 2018 race winner, was not available to defend her title, as she is still recovering from a vehicle accident she was involved in nearly three months ago while training on the B1 highway.
Marion Schonecke finished the race in second place, while Courtney Liebenberg finished third.
In the junior men's category, Hugo Hahn was crowned champion, while Dieter Koen and Adriaan Kotze came second and third, respectively.
