Media team ready to shine in Maseru
The National Media Team (NMT) football side are geared up and ready to compete in Maseru, Lesotho against two social football teams from that country tomorrow.
Established in 2007, the media team is the pride of current and former journalists, whose ideals are the fostering of relationships and collaboration in the media fraternity.
The NMT is the only formalised entity that aims to enhance the spirit of unity within the media fraternity since 2007.
Over the weekend, the NMT will lock horns with two opponents who are Team 20 and Lesotho Defence Force Masters in Maseru at the Lesotho Defence Force football field.
Speaking to Nampa on Thursday, former captain and one of the founding members of the team, John Ekongo, said their aim of going to Lesotho is to win while at the same time fostering relationships.
“Central to doing this we want to use the media to connect with other journalists, as well as brothers in the region through sport.”
Ekongo added that the team has in the past toured Botswana, which has been their yearly trip since 2007, while in 2017 they toured Cape Town in celebration of their 10th anniversary.
“We now have a new destination for this year which is Lesotho, a place where we want to find other journalists whom we can work with in the future,” said Ekongo.
The NMT visits different towns in the country, with this year's national tours visiting Rundu and Karibib earlier this year.
Their trip to Lesotho is made possible with the help of Air Namibia, Ndinapamwa Manufacturing and Supplies, Coca-Cola Namibia, MobiPay and Powerline Africa.
The team departed for Lesotho yesterday and is expected back in the country on Sunday.
