Mboma number one - again!

LIMBA MUPETAMIWINDHOEKNamibia’s Christine Mboma ran a remarkable race on Friday evening in Brussels, Belgium, to claim her first ever Wanda Diamond League gold medal.Trailing behind in second place was Shericka Jackson of Jamaica in 21.95 seconds, while Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith settled for bronze, clocking 22.04 seconds.The fourth place went to Sha’Carri Richardson of the United States, who clocked 22.45 seconds.Mboma’s compatriot Beatrice Masilingi ended the race in fifth place, running 24.22 seconds.In her post-race interview with international media Mboma said it felt great to win in such a strong field."It has been a very tough and busy season with the Olympics and the world junior championships, but I'm still in good shape," she added.Mboma avoided comment on World Athletics regulations by saying that after having stepped down from her favoured 400 m in Tokyo, the 200 m was now her favourite event."I'm just doing my best, just see what I can do," the Namibian added."In the future I think I can race faster than that. In the next one or two years, I'll try the 100 m, just to see."Mboma and Masilingi’s coach, Henk Botha, said the two athletes will be heading to Zurich where they will race in the final series of the Diamond League on 8 September.They will then move on to compete at the Borisa Hanzekovica Memorial meet in Croatia on 14 September. Four days later, they will compete at the Kip Keini Classic in Kenya.Botha expressed satisfaction with the performance of the teenage sprinters and added that Masilingi did her best considering the fact that she was battling with flu prior to the event.Mboma earned herself N$149 200 (US$10 000) and Masilingi took home N$18 650 (US$1 250).If she wins the final event, Mboma stands a chance to walk away with N$447 600 (US$30 000). The second runner-up will earn close to N$179 040 (US$10 000) and the third-placed athlete will walk away with N$52 220 (US$3 500).In addition, Mboma recently entered into a sponsorship deal with Nike which will turn a year old in June next year.
