A 29-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering a three-month-old baby during a fight with his girlfriend in Katima Mulilo on Friday.
According to the police, the man confronted his girlfriend about whether he was the biological father of the child. He then apparently took the baby by the neck and threw him onto the roof. The child fell onto the floor and died.
Girl raped in her house
In a separate incident, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 38-year-old Angolan man at Omahenene village in the Omusati Region on Friday.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Outapi Magistrate's Court today.
The Omusati regional police commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo, confirmed the incident and said the man was arrested the same day. The complainant is a grade 7 pupil.
Shikongo said it is alleged that the suspect called the victim to the bathroom of her father's house and raped her there.
He said the suspect and the complainant are neighbours.
“The father heard noise coming from the bathroom. He went to see what was happening and found the man raping his daughter,” Shikongo said.
He said the father immediately called the police. The girl will be attended to by social workers for counselling and medical check-ups. Police investigations continue.
