Man kills ex with spear
It was an eventful long weekend at the coast, where a train crashed into truck, while a Karibib woman became the latest intimate partner murder victim in the country.
A 51-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 26-year-old former girlfriend in Karibib on Saturday.
According to Erongo deputy police commissioner, Erastus Iikuyu, the suspect allegedly broke open the door of the victim's ghetto at Karibib's old location, entered and started assaulting her between 21:00 and 21:30.
“The victim managed to escape her attacker and ran to the neighbours for help. The suspect pursued her and stabbed her several times with a spear in her back and in the neck.
“The victim died on the spot next to the neighbour's yard. The suspect fled from the scene, was later arrested in Usakos and will appear in Karibib Magistrate's Court (today). The investigation continues,” Iikuyu said.
The police are also searching for two white male suspects who stole a Heli 3.5-ton forklift valued at N$200 000 in Walvis Bay on Sunday.
The incident occurred at about 02:07.
The forklift was parked in front of a house on the corner 4th and 5th streets and belongs to a 32-year-old Chinese businesswoman.
According to Iikuyu video footage shows the forklift was stolen by two unidentified white men. The vehicle has not been recovered.
“Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the stolen item or the suspects can contact detective chief inspector Viljoen on 081 756 4428.”
Meanwhile, three suspects were arrested in connection with the theft of a goat valued at N$1 500 in Omatjete on Saturday.
The trio, aged 28, 30 and 53, removed the male goat from the complainant's kraal at Otjovatjimba village, loaded it into a vehicle and were caught before they could drive off. They will appear in Omaruru Magistrate's Court today.
Train crashes into truck
Considerable damage was caused when a train derailed after crashing into a truck at a railway crossing in Walvis Bay in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Iikuyu confirmed there were no injuries.
TransNamib CEO Johnny Smith visited the accident site and called on drivers to adhere to the traffic signage at the two railway crossings located between the town and the industrial area.
The accident disrupted the flow of trains to the rest of Namibia and traffic at the normally busy crossing in Hanna Mupetami Road.
The truck was transporting copper and the train was en route to Arandis with a load of acid for a mine.
No acid spillage was reported.
