A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a body discovered on Wednesday at Omayanga village in the Okatana Constituency, Oshana Region.
The body has been identified as that of 24-year-old Elise Nepolo Shikongo.
Oshana police commissioner Hilja Haipumbu said Shikongo was reported missing in Oshakati West on Monday.
“The allegation is that the deceased was killed. A murder case has been filed and police investigations continue. The next of kin have been informed,” Haipumbu said.
Shikongo’s lover was arrested yesterday.
Haipumbu said the suspect allegedly stabbed Shikongo in the chest. “It is not clear how many stab wounds have been found on the body, as it has decomposed,” she said.
Haipumbu said the body was spotted by a child who saw dogs digging in the ground and ran home to tell his family.
A knife believed to be the murder weapon was found in the suspect’s room, as well as items belonging to the deceased.
Haipumbu said Shikongo was the suspect’s neighbour before she relocated to Oshakati West.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court today. Police investigations continue.
