A man allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday by driving into a tree along the Outapi-Ruacana main road at Omindamba village in the Omusati Region.

It is alleged that Sakaria David (38) from Iishanaputa village, who was the lone occupant in the vehicle, was driving from Epalela towards Outapi.

Omusati police regional commander, commissioner Titus Shikongo, who confirmed the incident, said the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to swerve off the road and hit the tree.

David died at the scene. The incident happened just before midnight.

“Further information revealed that the deceased had an argument with his girlfriend at Onesi at around 23h11. The deceased then drove off and was involved in the accident,” Shikongo said, leading the police to suspect suicide.

The deceased’s next of kin have been informed. The body is being kept at Oshifo police mortuary and will be transported to Okahao police mortuary for the post-mortem. Police investigations continue.
