A 36-year-old woman died after she was hacked with a panga at her mother's homestead at Ouhwaala village in the Omusati Region on Sunday.
Her boyfriend, Kaita Bruno Kaita (23), has been charged with the murder.
Kaita appeared before the Outapi Magistrate's Court yesterday and was remanded in custody until 3 November.
His girlfriend, Nauta Amalia Munyenga, succumbed to her injuries on the way to the Outapi District Hospital. The Omusati police commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo, said the two were living together at Munyenga's mother's house.
Shikongo said a fight broke out between the two and Kaita ran into the victim's bedroom armed with a panga and struck her several times on the head and neck.
Munyenga sustained deep wounds to the back of her head and neck.
Mother's desperate attempt
He said the murder occurred on Sunday evening while Munyenga's elderly mother was at home.
Earlier in the day, the couple were seen together at the cuca shops near the homestead.
“It is alleged that the two were headed home from the cuca shops when the squabble started. When they reached the homestead, the argument turned violent and the elderly woman, who was home alone, attempted to separate the fighting couple but the suspect overpowered her,” Shikongo said.
Munyenga is survived by her daughter, age unknown.
