Mambas kick Warriors out of Cosafa

Despite starting the competition on good footing, the Brave Warriors of Namibia were kicked out of the Cosafa Cup competition yesterday after losing 1-0 to Mozambique in their last group match.
Interim coach Bobby Samaria's Brave Warriors needed only one point to advance to the semi-finals of the Cosafa Cup but lost that chance in the match played at Isaac Wolfson Stadium in South Africa.
Mozambique sneaked through to second place with a goal from Melque Alexandre in the 81st minute of the match, thus going level with the Namibians on points.

Namibia's chances of advancing were also dimmed by their one-all draw on Tuesday against Malawi. Even though they played exceptionally well in their first and second matches against Senegal (2-1) and Zimbabwe (2-0) respectively.
On the same day, Senegal beat Malawi 2-1 to claim the top spot with nine points, which means Mozambique and Namibia both ended with seven points. Malawi and Zimbabwe ended the group on two points each.
“This happens when you play tough games one after each other. It was heavy on the players. The boys gave everything that they could.
“We still have World Cup qualifiers to play for. We will go back, sit down and assess the team as there is room for improvement,” said Robert Nauseb, assistant coach of the Warriors. Samaria was not present at the post-match interview after receiving a red card during the match.
The tournament has 10 teams divided into two groups. Only the two best teams from each pool will sail through.
