Making a mark on student politics
De Celestino is fuelled with the passion of wanting to aid those in need.

Naboth de Celestino is a determined student leader looking to shape a bright future for the young people of Namibia. He is the current secretary for political and international affairs for the Namibia National Students Organisation (Nanso), and is also the chairperson of the Law Association of Mooting and Advocacy at the University of Namibia (Unam).
Educational background
De Celestino believes that as a leader, you never stop learning. He completed his diploma in paralegal studies in 2019 at Unam. He thereafter enrolled for a bachelor of law degree and is currently in his third year as a law student.
“That is my academic background at the moment, but as soon as I complete this qualification, I have to move on to the next one,” he said.
Leadership trail
De Celestino said his first ever leadership position was when he was still in high school at Dr Romanus Kampungu Secondary School. He said learners voted for him as the student representative council (SRC) member for treasury in 2016. He added that the reasons his fellow learners voted for him was because of the capacity and capabilities he displayed in addressing the plights and needs of learners.
De Celestino said when he started university, he tried his best to find balance between being a leader and student.
“I wanted to only focus on my studies and not be involved in anything else but I realised that was not me,” he said. He soon joined the law and debate societies. He said he joined these societies with the sole aim of enhancing his growth. He then ran for the public relations office in both societies and managed to be elected in both. In 2019, he was elected as the law faculty representative and in that same year he joined the Nanso Unam branch as the secretary for political and internal affairs. De Celestino was also a member of the legal committee at the Unam students parliament. With the capacity De Celestino displayed, he was then elected as the national secretary for political and international affairs.
The future of Namibia
“We tend to say that education is the key to success, yet there are no jobs for graduates,” De Celestino said, adding that in the next five years, he wants to see young Namibians thrive in the employment and educational sectors. He urged that as a country we need to address youth unemployment as soon as possible as there are devastating consequences that come as a result of a high unemployment rate. He also wants to see a change in the educational sector to one that best prepares the youth for the future.
