Ludicrous lyrics sink Boet
Artist: Boet
Album title: Unexpected Arrival
*
Boet is fairly unknown on the local music scene, so I didn’t know what to expect when I laid my hands on this album.
It starts with Hard Work, which features Satlam, Neslow and Omsaane Niihana.
You would assume that with so many artists on one song it will be a masterpiece, but for the most part it lacks that wow factor, making it a rather boring.
Things, however, get even more absurd on the song titled Stuck On You, which features Laquida.
She has an amazing voice and sounds wonderful. Laquida almost sounds like Tequila and I foresee great things for her. It's Boet’s lyrics that are absolutely ridiculous.
What is supposed to be a love song about being stuck on someone ends up with Boet singing about a Swapo congress. “They have to work harder like Swapo, we are the congress... and they will not be giving up in the industry. They are in the industry like a Swapo. You will not go forward if you don’t wake up†he sings in Oshiwambo.
It simply doesn’t make sense. I just can’t comprehend why an artist with an amazing female vocalist and really good instrumentals can ruin what good be a hit song with illogical lyrics.
Pain & Gain is, however, easy to warm up to, mostly because of the very unique instrumentals.
You will be forgiven for dancing to the song without actually listening to what Boet is saying.
And then there is Salute, and for a while I liked the song before I realised that it almost sounds identical to Sunny Boy’s track, also called Salute.
There are many similarities between the songs.
On Wanna Be, Boet features Tiara and her vocals are extremely shaky.
A good musician should never ever collaborate with someone who quite frankly just can’t sing.
When you hear Tequila, Sunny Boy or Mushe song play on radio for the first time, you know it’s them because they have created a musical identity for themselves.
The only thing I will remember about Boet is his ludicrous lyrics. That is unfortunate, as it takes time and money to produce an album - time and money that could have been invested in something more productive.
