With rapid advances in the music sphere, it is easy to forget watching your favourite music videos on Beats Per Minute or Whatagwan.
Yes, life is moving that fast. But don’t worry, there is a body of work in the pipeline by three kwaito groups that will be reminiscent of the good old days.
Magogoz, Fresh Family and Street Kidz gave us tunes to groove to years ago. Having taken some time off to pursue solo careers, the groups have decided to come together for a collaborative album and tour this year.
Chubby Beats of Magogoz told tjil the groups believe in unity. Together they are a big force, he said, adding they are doing it for the culture and to prove that working together is the key to building the music industry.
“Divided they kept us and now they are threatened by us coming together. We know all your tricks and you can’t derail us,” he said.

Bringing it back
Magogoz has been around since 2006, but only released their debut album, The Anticipated Big 4, in 2014. Starting off with four members, duo Shafa ‘Shoza’ Oscar and Sion ‘Makuva’ Mushinga now fly the Magogoz flag high.
Fresh Family burst onto the music scene under Mshasho years ago, but have since split up to pursue solo careers. They were best known for their hit song Superstars. On the other hand, Street Kids, Gazza’s protégés, started off as back-up dancers but later developed into fully-fledged musicians.
With the groups’ different histories, this collaboration will be a unifying catalyst for these artists.
More details on the album release date and tour schedule will be shared soon.
