Kraatz takes on young boilermakers, welders

Engineering firm Kraatz Marine recently added nine more students from the Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT) to its internship programme. The students bring to 60 the number of participants in the programme since its establishment five years ago, receiving training in boilermaking, welding, fitting and turning. “This internship programme forms part of our contribution to bring the O&L Group motto ''Creating a Future, Enhancing Life'' to life,” Kraatz Marine human resources manager Roberto January said. “It is of utmost importance, and we are keen on developing young Namibians and affording them the opportunity to gain practical experience to better prepare them for the job market and at the same time contributing to our country''s development,” January said. The job attachment lets the students gain practical experience under mentorship from experienced craftsmen in the industrial, marine and offshore industries. “We offer job attachment not only to students in their third levels but we give opportunity to level one students as well,” January said. “The level three students stay with the company for a total of 12 months, which is required by NIMT to qualify or trade as level four.” The company will continue to run its internship programme for as long as it is able, he said, considering it a contribution to addressing Namibia''s identified skills shortage.DENVER ISAACS
