Know your road signs
As part of the Vivo Energy National Road Safety Campaign, Namibian Sun will for the next six weeks feature the various road traffic signs used on the country’s national roads.
Road traffic signs are grouped into categories, ranging from warning, guidance and information signs, to road markings.
This week, we focus on regulatory signs.
Regulatory signs
Regulatory signs refer to the range of signs used to indicate or reinforce traffic laws, regulations or requirements which apply at all times or at specific times or placed on a street or highway.
Disregarding these signs may therefore constitute a violation.
Examples of regulatory signs are control signs such as the ‘Stop’, ‘Yield’, and ‘No entry’ signs, as well as command signs like ‘Minimum Speed’, ‘Pedestrians Only and ‘Proceed Left Only’.
Regulatory signs also include prohibition signs like Speed Limit, Mass Limit and ‘No U-Turn’ signs.
Be sure to check today’s featured sign in the Vivo Energy National Road Safety Campaign competition, in this edition of Namibian Sun, and stand a chance to win N$1 000 in prize money.
