Kings bow to Namibia

JESSE JACKSON KAURAISA Namibia's senior national rugby team on Saturday defeated Southern Kings by 28-22 points.It was a second victory for the team that will play in the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan this month.It was not an easy match, as the visitors opened the scoring through a penalty by Bader Pretorius in the second minute of the match to make the score 3-0.The team from South Africa went on to dominate proceedings with a try from Howard Mnisi 16 minutes into the game, taking a 8-0 lead.Torsten van Jaarsveld gave Namibia's first try which was converted by PW Steenkamp 20 minutes into time. John Jackson scored Southern Kings' second try of the day and Bader Pretorius made no mistake with the conversion after 25 minutes into the match. It appeared as if the home team were going to lose the match as the visitors took a 22-7 lead into halftime.The Namibian team had other intentions, however, and came back strongly after the second half.Eugene Jantjies scored Namibia's second try of the day and Cliven Loubser converted it in the 69th minute.Chad Plato brought the scores to 21-22 in the 73 minute of the match which was converted by Cliven Loubser. Plato scored yet another try in the 80th minute to bring the scores to 28-22. Namibia will play Southern Kings again in Walvis Bay this coming weekend. The team recently returned from their high-intensity training camp in South Africa ahead of the 2019 Japan Rugby World Cup, which kicks off on 20 September. Namibia will play in Pool B, alongside Italy, South Africa, defending champions New Zealand and Canada. They will play their first match against Italy on 22 September. Their second match will be against South Africa on 28 September. New Zealand will be their third opponents on 6 October. Canada and Namibia will then clash on 13 October in their last group match.
