Kilimanjaro ready for tourney
The MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Promotion Club will host a 10-bout boxing bonanza at Oshakati on Saturday.
The bonanza will feature Namibian boxer Immanuel Mungandjera, who is scheduled to exchange blows with Zimbabwe's Freeman Mabvongwa in an eight-round international welterweight bout.
Mungandjera has a record of 17 fights, 13 wins, three losses and one draw, while Mabvongwa has five fights, four wins and a loss to his credit.
Confirming the tournament, its promoter Joseph Bernhard said his son Michael will also take on Israel Kamwamba from Malawi in the international lightweight bout.
Michael has a record of six fights and six straight wins.
Other fights include Morsande Johannes vs Samuel Kambuta, Lamek Fabian vs Shonena Paulus, Andreas Amupolo vs Fillemon Nghutenya, Rafael Iita vs Andreas Nghinaunye and Julius Sheefeni vs Costa Niilo.
Jason Immanuel will take on Usko Rehabeam, while Onesmus Nekundi will take on Festus Matias and Sebastianus Nathaniel will clash with Johannes Katumba.
This is the first time Kilimanjaro Boxing Promotion will host an international fight at Oshakati, following the announcement of a sponsorship of N$1.2 million from MTC in June this year, which is spread over a period of three years.
The club hosted its first international boxing tournament at Omuthiya in the Oshikoto Region in December 2015, when Albinus 'Danny Boy' Felesianu defeated Godfrey Nemukongwe from South Africa via a technical knockout in the second round.
