Khanyi Mbau to rock Voigush launch

Few celebrities survive media reports about gold digging, man stealing, plastic surgery and other obsessions, but Khanyi Mbau is an exception. Tomorrow night the South African socialite will be headlining the launch of NBC’s Voigush TV show at the Turbine Room in the Old Power Station. Speaking to tjil yesterday, Voigush host and top male model Luis Munana said they are extremely excited to have Khanyi at the launch. “Khanyi embodies glamour and is a trendsetter. She is one of the most popular personalities in African showbiz,” he said. Luis said Khanyi is popular because she “is so real and has swag”. Fashion Television will also be at the event, as well as SABC 2 magazine show Selimathunzi. Luis is encouraging those attending the event to “dress to kill”. Fashion Vodka and champagne will also be served at the launch. There has been lots of excitement and hype around Voguish, which has been billed as television magazine show. It has been described as the first of its kind show in Namibia and sources have already told tjil that it will be one of the best ever produced in Namibia. However, the excitement went up four notches when the news broke Khanyi will be attending the launch event. She was born on October 15, 1985 and was raised by a single mother in Mofolo, Soweto. In 2004 she replaced actress Lindiwe Chibi in the role of Doobsie on Muvhango. A year later she was fired from the role, reportedly for spending too much time partying and appearing in the Sunday tabloids. In 2007 she played the role of Zee in the SABC1 mini-series After 9. In 2006 she landed the role of Mbali on Mzansi, but was fired from that show after one season. She met millionaire Mandla Mthembu in 2005 and the couple were married in 2006, amidst claims that Mbau was after his money While the two seemed happily married and welcomed a baby into the world nine months after the wedding, they were soon involved in a bitter divorce, with Mthembu at the time accusing Khanyi of being a gold digger. This was followed by rumours that she found herself another filthy rich sugar daddy, businessman Theunis Crous. They soon split, and Theunis returned to his wife. The media had frenzy, labelling the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Bling’ as broke and down and out. Khanyi, however, demonstrated her effortless ability to bounce back and showed that she may be down at times, but she is never completely out. In 2013 she featured in the reality television series Reality Check. She also began hosting her own talk show on the OpenView HD channel eKasi+, called Katch It With Khanyi. This year she also had a starring role in the Vuzu sitcom Check Coast. In 2012, Khanyi’s star power was cemented with her popular and positively received biography titled Bitch, Please, I’m Khanyi Mbau. But what sets Khanyi apart from other former Kamborotos is her ability to always rise again. Few can re-invent themselves and stay relevant as she does. Tickets for the Voguish launch cost N$1 000 for VIP and N$150 for normal entry. The event will be covered by Fashion Television and other VIP guests include Maria Nepembe, while there will also be performances by Oteya and Lil D. WINDHOEK GORDON JOSEPH
